There were several reasons the limits profiles functionality changed between 'Limit Profiles Phase 1' and 'Limit Profiles Phase 2':

  • very few resellers / end clients were setting up granular limit profiles and instead relying on the defaults.
  • the defaults set were too 'open' / unrestrictive: 10,000 minutes used to 'Geographic' numbers would results in a very different call spend to the same number of minutes used to 'Premium' rate numbers, in essence this circumvented the purpose of limit profiles and fraud mitigation.
  • feedback from some resellers was that the limit profiles logic was not sufficiently clear.
  • there were some difficult to address issues with the 'Limit Profiles Phase 1' logic and an associated issue regarding increased system load.
