Tomorrow night’s release…

 

As you may have already seen via the portal notification and earlier emails (for example please refer to earlier email below) our new architecture, which has been running live for many months, will have the final stages of implementing our auto-failover between our dual data centres released in addition to a major new release of our portal software. Whilst we have stated a unusual four hour maintenance window for this major release, registrations / calls should only be affected for two short ten minute periods (scheduled to be 22:00-22:10 and 23:30-23:40). This release will not only implement seamless auto-failover but will also enable us to maintain the servers in our mirrored data centres independently. In turn will reduce / eliminate the need for large maintenance windows like this in the future: it’s the final piece a milestone improvement in service over a year in the working.

 

An important note: benefit from auto-failover and set your ‘registration timeout’ correctly…

 

We recommend best practise by setting a short registration timeout trunk setting: whilst it is our intention to ensure any failover happens swiftly (be it automatic if an issue is detected, or invoked by us as a part of maintenance) by setting the ‘sip-force-expires’ setting on our platform to ensure re-registration within a short (2-5 minute) timeframe, we recommend that you set the ‘registration expiry timeout’ setting to be equal to 5 minutes (300 seconds) on both on the trunk and for good measure on all end devices also via your phone system’s device profiles / device settings. In addition, if you use your own DNS record, do contact your domain provider and ensure the TTL (time to live) is set to be short (2-5 minutes). Ensuring these are done will mean you benefit from our auto-failover service and ensure that any failover happens within a few short minutes.
